Simon McCay – Voice of Hyperion
An Honours graduate in English and History, Simon has been an actor since 2008 appearing in several stage productions including Macbeth, Breaking the Code and Five Women Wearing the Same Dress. Simon started acting for film in 2010. He has appeared in a number of short films, TV pilots and two feature films. Simon McCay is a Director and co-founder of Burning Horseshoe Productions Ltd.
Jo Clifford – Voice of God
Jo is an award-winning playwright, translator, poet and performer, who has also worked as a journalist and academic. She was instrumental in establishing the reputation of the Traverse Theatre Company in the 1980s. Jo Clifford is the author of over 70 works in every Dramatic medium.
Katharine O’Donnelly – Catalina
Katharine recently competed her NQ in Acting & Performance at Langside College (now Glasgow Clyde). After Summer 2014 she will be off to the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland for a BA in Acting.
Kenneth Fullwood – Catalin
Kenneth completed his HND in Acting & Performance at Langside College (now Glasgow Clyde). He is now off to Italia Conti in London to do a BA in Acting and break into the London scene. His TV credits include an Irn-Bru advert, a SPAR advert and a wide variety of local advertising pieces. He also has a part of a local thug in the Peter Mullen film Hector.
Martin Smillie – Suitor
Martin has graduated from Langside college (now Glasgow Clyde) with an HND in Acting & Performance. Prior to college, Martin was heavily involved with the Skillshops at the Tron. He also toured in 2005 with Theatre Babel as part of the cast of Macbeth.
Stuart Mains – King
After playing the lead in a Christmas Carol and the Mayor in a production of the Pied Piper, Stuart took a sabbatical to focus on his business career. Now as an established entrepreneur, he has re-ignited his passion for acting. Stuart also enjoys script writing and has written & directed a couple of short films.
Rach Leonard – Queen / Lad 3
Since graduating from university with an Honours degree in English Literature, Rach has been involved in a variety of performance projects, including physical theatre, dance and screen acting. She has a passion for theatre acting, especially comedies and movement based pieces. Rach also enjoys script writing and working with children.
Rachel Still – Lad 1
Rachel is heavily involved with the Scottish Youth Theatre and completed her HNC in Acting & Performance at Stow College (now Glasgow Kelvin). She performed in a Midsummers Night’s Dream at the Edinburgh Botanic Gardens during the Fringe festival of 2012. She also devised and performed her own piece “Nows the Hours” at the Edinburgh Festival Politics 2013.
Alice Donnelly – Lad 2
Alice is a veteran of Scottish Youth Theatre’s Summer shows which inspired her to pursue a career in acting. While still at school, she was cast in Scottish Opera productions. She has a dance teacher qualification (associate artist of the British Tap Dance Association) and enjoys musical theatre.
Lourdes Gala Santos – Lad 4
Lourdes started acting 3 years ago with STG, having a predilection for plays that allow her to get very close to her audience such as ‘à la carte’ events. Her background as a dancer gives her a strong presence on stage and she thoroughly enjoys physical theatre and stage fighting.
Alan Dempster – Jester
Alan’s love for theatre comes from his active membership of the Strathclyde Theatre Group since the mid-eighties. He has starred in a variety of roles and recently was in Antigone (an STG production) and Rosencrantz & Guildenstern both played at the Govanhill baths in 2013. Alan is also an avid theatregoer and has worked behind the scenes in a number of productions. He has been involved in all aspects of theatre making from set design to stage management and production.
Crew
Alexa Ispas – Writer / Director
Alexa is a writer and theatre maker living in Glasgow. She is a published author, with her book ‘Psychology and Politics: A social identity perspective’ published by Routledge in 2013 and drawing on Alexa’s PhD thesis and academic research background. Alexa was one of the artists selected to contribute to 3rd Ring Out, a science-based drama presented by Metis Arts at the Edinburgh Fringe 2011, and had her writing exhibited as a Picture Window as part of Sonica in 2012. She has also performed in Girl X, a National Theatre of Scotland production, and in On the Rim of the World, a Citizen Theatre/Scottish Opera production.
Stuart can turn his hand to most things and has volunteered to fill in some of the roles of the crew. His business experience gives him the skills needed to manage the production along with his technical skills which allow him to tackle some of the more specialist roles.
Lizzie studied theatre, screen acting and film production at the University of the West of Scotland and currently holds a BA (Hons) in Contemporary Screen Acting. Lizzie is also a keen photographer and filmmaker.
This dynamic duo have worked tirelessly designing and building the enormous Hyperion set. They are true miracle workers for whom there is no impossible task.
Peter has been acting, directing, writing plays and composing music/songs for over 25 years. Notable acting credits include: Samuel Parris – The Crucible; Alan Turing – Breaking The Code; Lenny – The Homecoming; Party Guest – Mercury Fur. As director: Shakespeare’s King Lear & Titus Andronicus; Sarah Kane’s Blasted; Harold Pinter’s No Mans Land, The Dumb Waiter & Betrayal. Peter is currently writing a new play entitled Lek, a twisted concoction of mating rituals and sexual politics.
John regularly attended Glasgow Acting Academy and is passionate about the behind-the-scenes aspects of theatre production. He is an active script- and sketch-writer.
Bruce has been involved in directing and producing community theatre for over twenty years. He is passionate about turning Govanhill Baths into one of the coolest performance venues in Glasgow.
